The Cascade is a cabin plan that is awash in natural light. This updated A-frame house plan has 16 skylights in addition to the richly windowed walls. Designed as a vacation home, the Cascade is at home in the mountains or low lands along a lake or river. The abundant windows and large outdoor gathering space are waiting to take in any view.
Entering from the expansive deck into the living room will almost feel like you are still outside. Half of the skylights sit over the living room. Combined with the vaulted, exposed-beam ceiling and tall windows this space allows as much of the outdoors in as possible and is naturally bright and cheery. When the days become a little shorter and darker, a central fireplace will continue to brighten and warm the living room.
The award for the next brightest room is shared between the owners' suite and the combination kitchen/dining room. The owners' suite has the other half of the 16 skylights in its vaulted ceiling. The addition of diamond-shaped windows, on opposite ends of the room, boost the amount of light. The sleeping area of the owners' suite even has a lower window, for appreciating the view, and a glass door that opens to secluded second story deck.
Designed as a loft, the owners' suite is completely open to the living room below on one side. A unique feature in the Cascade's owners' suite is the ladder that is centered in the room and leads to an 11-by-10-foot third story loft. Complete with views of the outside as well as the remainder of the owners' loft. Additional conveniences of the owners' loft include a private bathroom along with walk-in closet.
Large windows bathe the kitchen/dining area with light from two sides. A pair of doors open out on to a large deck while another set of windows over the sink allows for full enjoyment of the view. An oven and range, incorporated into the eating bar, along with a wet bar in the dining room, allow for convenient food service.
Two additional bedrooms, a little utility room, and a full bathroom fill in the remaining space of the Cascade's main floor. When snow is in the forecast, the steep metal roof handles and shrugs off the snow easily.
