The Cambridge is a country house plan that brings luxury home finishes such as gabled rooflines, dormer windows, and wrap-around porches in reach to both first-time homeowners and empty nesters alike. As a small home plan, its 1794 square foot layout is approachable and timeless.
Designed with economy and ease of maintenance in mind makes this one story home plan makes it a favorite for homeowners who are single, young families with small children or couples who have been promoted to grandparenthood.
The positioning of the front bedroom, adjacent to the front porch, makes it a perfect locale for a house office if desired. Simply removing the closet would allow for installation of a door with direct access from the porch.
Everyday living happens in the bright, vaulted open-style great room. Family room, nook, and kitchen flow seamlessly together. Skylights fill this space with natural light in addition to the side windows and a top dormer, this area will hardly require the use of lamps and lights during the daytime.
A sliding glass doors from the nook open to a wide deck allowing meals and family gatherings to move outside when days are warm. Utilities are close at hand, and serve as a passageway to the garage and can double as a mudroom and drop zone.
Indoor plants thrive on the 8‑foot-high recessed plant packs that frame the vaulted entry hall, span entrance to the family room, and flag the passageway into the owners' suite. Alternatively, to filling the shelves with greenery, these high shelves can be used as display space.
The owners' suite is located just off the family room and enjoys private access to the deck. Additional luxurious conveniences include a sizable walk‑in closet and dual sinks in a dressing area separate from the toilet and shower.
Families who enjoy informal living will enjoy the low key nook in place of a formal dining room. However, the Cambridge does offer an impressive, separate living room complete with a large bay window and cozy fireplace.
