Shutters decorate the windows on the main level of this two story house plan. Combine those with the steep metal roof and solider row of columns that frame the covered porch and you start to see the country style of the Hickory Lane 2, a classic farmhouse plan.
The wrap-around porch is inviting and an ideal place to add a porch swing and some outdoor furniture to just sit back, relax, and watch the world go by. The foyer is designed as an airlock. The ability to keep the entry closed off from the core of the home helps those in climates with more extreme temperatures keep the inside of the home consistent. It also adds an additional level of privacy.
Through the pocket door, the foyer opens up to a wide hallway. To the left, is the main floor bathroom that also houses the washer and dryer. To the right, is one of the four bedrooms in the Hickory Lane 2. The main floor bedroom is the largest in the home and can serve as the master bedroom. At the back of the entry hallway is a coat closet and access to the basement stairs.
The back of the floor plan is filled with the great room. Kitchen, dining, and living combine in one large, casual space. The kitchen includes the dining space in addition to the generous amount of cabinet storage and counter space. The back wall of the kitchen and dining is a sliding glass door that allows the room to open up to the covered porch beyond on warm summer days. In between the living room and the kitchen is a fireplace. The living room is naturally bright from a large window display along the back wall. Along the living room another set of stairs winds its way up to the second floor.
At the top of the stairs, a small balcony looks over the living room. On the upper floor are three additional bedrooms along with a full bathroom that is shared between all of the bedrooms.
The compact footprint of the Hickory Lane 2 makes it a great narrow lot house plan for those building on tight city lots to consider.
