Designed for construction on a narrow lot, this Craftsman house plan offers homeowners’ a contemporary floor plan. An eye-catching combination of lap siding, shingles, and stone grace the front of the Oakland and is sure to catch the attention of the neighbors.
A slender post frames defines the edge of the front covered porch and helps to frame the front door. Inside the foyer is designed as an air lock. Providing the option to close off the entry from the rest of the home is idea for those who live in areas with extreme temperature swings or for individuals concerned with privacy. From within the airlock entry there is a coat closet straight ahead, access to the home’s attached one car garage and then through the double pocket doors is the main living area.
The living area of the Oakland is very open. First up is the den. Two large windows keep the den nice and bright. This space is ideal as a home office or study. Continuing towards the back of the floor plan, is the living room. The open arrangement of the living room, dining room and kitchen is both modern and informal. Along the back of the living room, a set of stairs leads down to the home’s basement foundation. The basement is unfinished however the designer has offered a suggestion for a mechanical closet and additional bathroom. The rest of the space can be finished to the homeowners’ desire and lifestyle requirements, whether that is additional bedrooms, gathering space or hobby room.
Back on the main level, the living room transitions to the dining room where there is enough room for a buffet or hutch if needed. The back of the great room is filled with the kitchen. Complete with an island that includes an eating bar, the kitchen also offers access to the deck and backyard beyond through the sliding glass door.
Nearby is the laundry room and the first of two bedrooms. The other bedroom is accessed near the basement stairs and each room is the same size.
