Welcome to the Wedge Plantation, an exquisite colonial style house plan with southern influence, combining timeless elegance with modern comforts. This stunning 2-story home spans 3,471 square feet and is thoughtfully designed to accommodate a lifestyle of luxury, convenience, and family togetherness. With its distinctive architectural features and meticulous attention to detail, the Wedge Plantation is more than just a house—it's a home where cherished memories are made.
As you approach the Wedge Plantation, the exterior immediately captivates with its classic charm. The house is beautifully clad in a combination of lap siding and brick, offering a nod to traditional southern architecture while ensuring durability and low maintenance. Large windows with elegant shutters punctuate the façade, adding to the home’s stately presence. The dormer windows above hint at the spacious rooms within, while a split staircase beckons you up to the grand covered front porch. This porch, with its white pillars and ample space, is the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee or evening tea, embodying the southern tradition of gracious outdoor living.
Stepping through the front door, you are welcomed into a spacious foyer that sets the tone for the rest of the home. The foyer is a central hub, offering access to various parts of the home and giving a sense of openness. To the left, a formal living room awaits, a perfect space for hosting guests or enjoying quiet moments. This room, with its refined details, offers a glimpse into the elegance that flows throughout the home.
On the right side of the foyer, past two stately columns, lies the formal dining room. This space is designed for memorable gatherings, whether it’s a festive holiday dinner or an intimate family meal. With direct access to the kitchen, this dining room makes entertaining both seamless and sophisticated.
Straight ahead, beyond the foyer and past the staircase leading to the second floor, you enter the heart of the home: the family room. This grand space boasts a two-story ceiling that enhances the sense of openness and light. A fireplace serves as the focal point, providing warmth and ambiance during cooler months, while a built-in entertainment center adds a modern touch. This room is designed for both relaxation and connection, where family and friends can gather to create lasting memories.
Adjacent to the family room is the well-appointed kitchen, a chef’s dream. The kitchen features a central island that provides ample prep space, a pantry for storage, and easy access to the formal dining room. A breakfast area, with a charming bay window, offers a more casual dining option, perfect for morning meals or afternoon snacks. Nearby, a desk area provides a convenient spot for managing household tasks or supervising homework.
Beyond the kitchen, the mud room serves as a hub of convenience, connecting various essential spaces. Here, you’ll find the powder room, utility room, side porch, and a spacious 2-car garage with additional storage. This practical area is designed to keep the home organized and functional, making day-to-day life easier.
The master suite, tucked away on the main floor, offers a private retreat for the homeowners. This serene space includes a luxurious ensuite bathroom, complete with two vanities, a whirlpool tub, a separate shower, and a private toilet area. The suite’s spacious walk-in closet, with its own window, provides ample storage and a touch of natural light.
Ascending to the second floor, you’ll find the remaining three bedrooms, each thoughtfully designed for comfort and privacy. One bedroom enjoys its own private bathroom, while the other two share a Jack & Jill style bathroom, each with a small walk-in closet. The second floor also features an indoor balcony that overlooks the family room below, creating a sense of connection between the home’s levels. An exterior balcony offers views from the front of the house, providing a peaceful outdoor escape.
Down a long hallway, past additional storage, lies a bonus future recreation room. This versatile space, which could add 559 square feet of living space, offers endless possibilities—whether it becomes a playroom, home gym, or media room, it’s a space that can evolve with your family’s needs.
At the back of the house, a terrace area invites you to enjoy the outdoors. Whether it’s a quiet evening under the stars or a lively gathering with friends, this outdoor space is designed for relaxation and entertainment.
The Wedge Plantation is more than just a home; it’s a masterpiece of design that blends southern tradition with modern luxury. It’s a place where every detail has been considered, and where you and your family can build a future full of warmth, comfort, and joy.
Collaboration with a friendly fellow developing Kilgore Plantation in Greenville, South Carolina, resulted in my designing The Wedge Plantation. We determined that a South Carolina historical home should be replicated without but designed within to meet the needs of today. The “original” Wedge, a rice planter’s home, possesses a simple, elegant, classical grace with perfect symmetry enhanced by balanced wings. Researching this 1826 plantation home and designing the “new” Wedge has been an enjoyable experience and one that I wish to share with you.
